“Death Book” Scam by GOP Tries to Scare Veterans

I hope that the Democrats understand that, just like airplanes lined up on a runway, as soon as one lie about Health Care Reform is debunked, the GOP and the insurance industry have another lie standing ready to taxi into place.

A Bush Administration document which was designed to help veterans write a living will, and have questions answered about how they can get all the care they need, has now been presented by Fox News as an Obama administration creation.

The pamphlet, “Your Life, Your Choices”, created by the Veterans Administration under Bush, has now been described “by some critics” (not Fox News, of course!) as a “Death Book”.  This material has been in use in some form in the U.S. since 1997.

Jim Towey was head of Bush’s faith-based initiatives office, whose responsibility was to funnel money to right wing Christian extremists in exchange for their votes and their support. That’s why right-wing “Christian” James Dobson said that Mark Foley, a Republican congressmen from Florida, who had molested Congressional teenage boy pages, was simply the victim of a prank by these same teenage boys.

Even after instant messages containing sexually explicit, and solicitous language from Mark Foley were published, the “Xtian” (i.e. pseudo-Christian) James Dobson, still backed Foley. You might ask, “Why would Dobson do this?”. The answer would be the money and fame bestowed upon him by Bush’s faith-based initiatives. The GOP was, and still is, James Dobson’s biggest supporter and enabler.

The reason that this is important is that money seems to matter a lot to right-wing extremist Xtians. And guess what, Jim Towey has a book, called “Five Wishes”, that also addresses things like living wills. Mr. Towey has been trying to sell his book to the V.A. Administration and has, so far, been unsuccessful. Is it surprising that his bitterness over not getting government money would cause him to try to discredit the booklet that the V.A. is now using.

With Republicans, it’s always about the money, even if you are supposedly a “Man of God”.  Jim Towey is the guest featured most often in the video below.

This video from the Daily Kos diplays  Chris Wallace’s report on Fox News about the “Death Book”. What’s funny is that in the video they say that the “Death Book” is given to *all* veterans. Well, if that’s true, then you can’t exactly make the case that healthy, 21 years-old troops returning from Iraq are being told to end their life by being given this book. Does that make any sense? I thought not.
