After a week of horror in Haiti, there was brief respite from the hurt in the form of a humorous song. First unveiled on American Idol, this song penned and performed by General Larry Platt escaped my attention until Jimmy Fallon, doing the most perfect Neil Young impression in the history of the Universe, brought the song to his show on “Late Night”.
For the uninitiated, Neil Young’s voice while doing slow, heart-rending (gut-wrenching?) solos is the stuff of legend, especially in his songs, “Down by the River” and “Cinnamon Girl”. Jimmy Fallon captures every nuance of Neil Young’s singing, and perhaps improves upon it in his rendition of the silliest song of the new year, and perhaps of the decade.
Here is the video from NBC:
To top it off, Brett Favre sang, “Pants on the Ground” after the Vikings victory over the Cowboys:
Although you may think that Brett Favre sounded terrible while doing something that could barely be called singing, General Larry Platt, the author of the song, hardly did much better on American Idol.
